Official Transplant Games of America Flag to be Signed by Local Transplant Recipients and Donor Family Member

Las Vegas – On Friday, Feb. 12, members of Team Nevada and Nevada Donor Network will come together at University Medical Center of Southern Nevada’s Center for Transplantation to celebrate the countdown to the 2016 Donate Life Transplant Games. Transplant recipients who will represent Nevada at the Games will sign the official Transplant Games flag which is being sent across the country for signatures from the more than 40 participating teams. The flag will return to Cleveland, Ohio where it will fly over Cleveland Public Auditorium during the Opening Ceremonies of the Transplant Games.

The Transplant Games of America is a multi-sport festival event that celebrates organ, cornea and tissue donation. Thousands of transplant recipients, living donors and donor family members from across the United States will travel to Cleveland for the five day event this summer. Transplant recipients can compete in a number of events including track and field, swimming, cycling, volleyball, bowling, basketball and non-traditional events such as ballroom dancing, corn hole (bean bag toss) and Texas Hold-em Poker. Donor family members are not eligible to compete in athletic events, but can participate in special workshops and events such as the donor tribute. The Transplant Games will take place in Cleveland June 10-15, 2016.

UMC’s Center for Transplantation will also open its doors to the public to learn more about living donation and UMC’s recent enrollment in the HRSA Workplace Partnerships for Life program, a nationwide initiative aimed at raising donor registration.
